| The Cosmetic & Ophthalmic Surgery Centre (COS) is supported by ophthalmic surgeons (specialist ophthalmic consultants referred to as eye surgeons), cosmetic and cataract surgeons as well as eye specialists from some of London’s leading hospitals.
Jeremy Joseph
Mr. Joseph is a Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon with specialist interest in Cataracts and Glaucoma. From 1994 to 2004 he was an NHS consultant at Central Middlesex Hospital (London, UK) and was Lead Clinician there. In addition he holds consultant appointments at Spire Bushey Hospital (Watford, UK) and The Garden Hospital (London, UK).
He obtained degrees from University of London (Bachelor of Medicine & Surgery 1982) and a Diploma in Ophthalmology (London) in 1985. He is a fellow of both the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons, and the Royal College of Ophthalmologists. In 1990 he obtained an M.D. at the University of London and in 1993 Accreditation of Higher Surgical Training. Mr. Joseph has performed more than 7,000 cataract extractions.
Christopher Bentley
Mr Bentley obtained degrees from the University of London (Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery 1988) at Kings College School of Medicine and Dentristry and University of Aston in Birmingham (BSc Hons Ophthalmic Optics 1980). He is a Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon to Central Middlesex Hospital, London. He has special interests in Strabismus and Paediatric Ophthalmology, small incision cataract surgery and all aspects of Botulinum toxin treatment. He currently holds the post of Honorary Treasurer of The Royal Society of Medicine section of Ophthalmology. He is an international member of The American Academy Of Ophthalmology and The European Strabismus Association. Bloom
Mr Bloom is a Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon with special interests in Glaucoma and Anterior Segment Surgery. Since 1996 he has held a joint consultant appointment between The Western Eye Hospital (London, UK) and The Hillingdon Hospital (Uxbridge, UK) and is an Honorary Senior Lecturer at The Imperial College School of Medicine. He gained the Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in 1990 (Gold Medal for 1989-90), and that of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists later that year. From 1992 he continued his higher surgical training in London at The Western Eye Hospital and at Moorfields Eye Hospital, where he subsequently undertook a Clinical Glaucoma Fellowship in 1994-1995; this was funded by the award of The 1994 Keeler Scholarship from The Royal College of Ophthalmologists. J Fallon
Mr Fallon is a Consultant Ophthalmologist at the Central Middlesex Hospital (London, UK) with special interest in Retinal Surgery. He gained the Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons in Edinburgh in 1987, and that of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists in 1988. He was Senior Registrar to The Royal Free Hospital, University College Hospital, The Royal London Hospital and Moorfields Hospital and spent a year as a Vitro-retinal fellow at the Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Infirmary, Melbourne Australia. Miss Lee qualified at Cambridge University and St Bartholomew’s Hospital Medical School. She had her Ophthalmic Training at the Western Eye Hospital and Moorfields Eye Hospital. Miss Lee is a Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon at the Central Middlesex Hospital, London. Subspecialty interest: Oculoplastic, Lacrimal and Orbital surgery. Chad
K Rostron
Mr Rostron has been a Consultant Ophthalmologist at Moorfields Eye Hospital at St George’s since 2002. He has held the appointment of Medical Director at Accuvision Laser Eye Clinic since 2003 and has been the Director of the Keratec Eye Bank and Corneal Laboratory, St George’s Hospital Medical School since 1989. He also has Honorary Consultant Ophthalmologist appointments at Sutton & St Helier Hospitals and Kingston Hospital. Toma
Michael Toma was appointed as a full time permanent Consultant Ophthalmologist in 1996. His NHS practice is based at Queen Elizabeth II Hospital, Welwyn Garden City and the Lister Hospital, Stevenage. Mr Toma qualified from the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland in 1983 and trained as an ophthalmic registrar on the St Batholomew’s/North Middlesex Hospitals rotation followed by an appointment as a senior registrar on the North Thames rotation (University College London, The Royal Free, The Royal London and Moorfield’s Eye Hospitals). Prior to his appointment as consultant he was a Fellow to the Corneal and External Eye Disease Service at Moorfield’s Eye Hospital and has also performed research into molecular genetics at the Institute of Ophthalmology. Brian Greaves Mr Greaves is a Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon with specialist interests in Strabismus, cataracts and oculoplastic surgery. At the time of getting his fellowship in Edinburgh he was the youngest ever to pass the Fellowship. He was then a Lecturer and Senior Registrar at Sheffield University for two years, followed by a year in Belgium and Holland. He then spent a year in London at Moorfields Hospital where he became a consultant. From 1995 to 2006 he held a Full time Contract at the William Harvey Hospital in Ashford, Kent. He was Lead Clinician from 1996 to 2002. Then Site Lead at the WHH from 2002 to 2006. In 2006 he left the NHS to concentrate on the areas of his interest. Mr Greaves is Chairman of the Medical Advisory Committee at St Saviours Hospital, Hythe, Kent, is a Royal Society of Medicine Member of Plastic and Ophthalmology Section, a Hospitals Inspector for Royal College of Surgeons and a member of the Southern Ophthalmological Society. He is a fellow of both the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons in Edinburgh and the Royal College of Ophthalmologists in London. In addition to his oculoplastic and ophthalmological work, Mr Greaves is highly experienced in doing aesthetic treatments with Botox, tissue enhancers, thread veins, agera peels and medical microdermabrasion. H e lectures on the Aging skin and Nutritional maximising of your Health, which impacts on delaying the Aging process and your healing after Surgery. Mr Greaves has performed 5,000+ Strabismus procedures; 4,910 cataract extractions; 700 eyelid surgery procedures and 150 corneal grafts.
JOHN
BOLGER Mr John Bolger is a Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon with a specialist interest in refractive surgery. He held a consultant appointment at the Queen Elizabeth II Hospital, Welwyn Gardens City from 1988 – 1994 where he set up a subregional eye unit. Prior to that he was a Senior Registrar at the Royal Free Hospital, and at Moorfields Eye Hospital in London. In 1994 Mr Bolger decided to take the bold step of leaving his NHS consultant post in order to pursue the development of an independent health care provider which would in turn supply the NHS with high quality, high value for money ophthalmic care. He formed Independent Ophthalmic Services Limited which supplied general practitioners and health authorities with a comprehensive ophthalmic service with an emphasis on cataract surgery. The business expanded rapidly and quite quickly began providing the service all over England. In 1996 Mr Bolger opened the first cataract centre ever in a GP practice. To date over 2,000 patients have had their operation this way. Mr Bolger has an active private practice and is also a course tutor on cataract and refractive surgery at Microsurgical Training Systems in Innsbruck and regularly gives courses and master classes in the UK and abroad. He is a peer reviewer for EYE, the British Journal of Ophthalmology and the Journal of the European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery. He has been featured on the BBC and Independent Television for his cataract work. Dr Nina Couvaras Dr Nina Couvaras qualified in Medicine at the University of Stellenbosch, South Africa, in 1987. After working as a Private General Practitioner in Johannesburg for 3 years, she relocated to London in 1991, where she has worked in the NHS and Private GP sectors for the past 16 years. In 2003 she became a Corporate Physician in the City of London and at Canary Wharf, where she gained enormous experience in disease- and age -prevention. She then developed a special interest in skin care, nutrition and weight control. She qualified as an Aesthetic Practitioner in 2005 and developed a passion for all aspects of facial, body and skin rejuvenation. She has since qualified in the use of non-surgical liposuction techniques , laser skin resurfacing and facial sculpting, adding to her previous qualifications and experience. Mr. Kalpesh S Patel Mr. Kalpesh S Patel BSc (Hons) FRCS (ORL) was born in India and moved to the UK at the age of four. Educated in Highbury, North London, he obtained his Medical Degree at St Bartholomew's Hospital Medical School, London in 1984. After attaining his Medical Degree, and spending a period as a Lecturer in Anatomy and Physiology at St Andrew's University, he went on to complete his specialist surgical training in Head & Neck Oncological Surgery at the Royal Marsden Hospital in London, passing the examinations for admission as a Fellow to the Royal College of Surgeons of England in 1990. Passionate about his chosen vocation he learned reconstructive techniques of the head and neck, for patients following cancer surgery, during his training. He developed a real interest in aesthetic surgery at this point and has always strived to ensure patients have a functional and aesthetic outcome from their post cancer surgery. In 1995 he was appointed as a consultant in ENT surgery at St Mary's Hospital where his work comprised Head & Neck Oncology and Rhinology. From 2002 the focus of his work has been Rhinology, with an emphasis on aesthetic and functional Rhinoplasty. Mr Kalpesh Patel is on the Specialist Register of the UK General Medical Council Mr Kalpesh Patel has admitting rights at many of London's most prestigious private hospitals including; the Harley St Clinic, the London Clinic, the Wellington Hospital, the Cromwell Hospital, The Lindo Wing at St Mary's Hospital, and the Clementine Churchill Hospital. By working closely with a consultant Maxillofacial Surgeon, as well as other Facial Surgeons, specialising in facial rejuvenation, he is able to offer comprehensive treatments for complete facial enhancement, whilst ensuring the highest standard of care for every patient. He strongly believes that any Rhinoplasty surgery should be carried out with a structured approach, using the patient's own cartilages to create a result that is not only aesthetically pleasing, but which offers the best long term results in terms of functionality. His holistic approach to Rhinoplasty and unrivalled knowledge of Rhinology is what makes Mr Kalpesh Patel one of the UK's finest Rhinoplasty Surgeons. He regularly attends national and international conferences in Facial Plastic Surgery and lectures on both undergraduate and graduate courses at Imperial College, London. He is highly acclaimed in his specialist field, and as well as supervising his surgical staff on a number of research projects, has contributed to a book on Haemostasis in Surgery.
